Fees & Insurance – Aspire Counseling Group

Aspire Counseling Group provides compassionate, trauma-informed therapy for individuals, couples, and families in Arcadia, Pasadena, San Marino, and throughout the San Gabriel Valley. We offer both private pay options and select insurance coverage to support access to care.

Private Pay Rates

Individual Therapy: $220 per 50-minute session
Couples & Family Therapy: $270 per 50-minute session

Our clinical expertise includes trauma therapy, EMDR, anxiety support, depression, relationship struggles, and life transitions. Private pay allows greater flexibility, personalization, and focus on your goals.

Why Clients Choose Private Pay

Many of our clients choose private pay for reasons such as:

• Greater privacy and discretion
• No diagnosis required for care
• Flexibility in treatment approach and session length
• Specialized services not constrained by insurance guidelines
• Appointment availability independent of insurer limitations

Private pay supports deeper collaboration and treatment tailored entirely to your needs.

Insurance Coverage

We accept select commercial insurance plans, including:

• Aetna
• UnitedHealthcare
• UMR
• Oscar
• Oxford
• Health Plans Inc.

Please check with your insurance company regarding your specific plan’s policies. We verify benefits and any expected financial responsibility before your first visit to make the process smooth.

Understanding Insurance & Privacy

When using insurance, a mental health diagnosis is required and becomes part of your medical record. Insurance providers may request documentation to confirm medical necessity if a claim is reviewed.

For clients who prefer not to receive a diagnosis or who value additional privacy and flexibility, private pay may be a preferred option.

FSA / HSA & Payment Options

We accept Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA), allowing you to use pre-tax dollars for therapy. Payment by major credit card, debit card, or FSA/HSA card is accepted.

Out-of-Network Claims & Superbills

We provide superbills at no cost. A superbill is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for potential reimbursement if your plan includes out-of-network benefits.

Many clients qualify for partial reimbursement.

If you have PPO insurance, we are happy to provide documentation to support your reimbursement request.

We also partner with Mentaya to help submit out-of-network insurance claims. Eligible sessions are reimbursed by check in the mail. You may use the Mentaya widget below to check your coverage in seconds. Approximately 70–90% of clients qualify for some level of reimbursement.

Frequently Asked Questions about Fees & Insurance

Q: Do you accept insurance for therapy in Arcadia, Pasadena, or San Marino?
A: Yes. Aspire Counseling Group is in-network with select commercial insurance plans. Coverage varies by plan. We verify your benefits before your first appointment so you understand estimated co-pays or deductibles. Please note that insurance provides an estimate of coverage, and final patient responsibility may change once claims are processed.

Q: What are your therapy rates without insurance?
A: Our private pay rates are $220 for individual therapy and $270 for couples or family therapy sessions. Private pay allows for greater flexibility and a more personalized treatment experience.

Q: Do I need a mental health diagnosis to use insurance for therapy?
A: Yes. Insurance requires a documented mental health diagnosis in order to approve coverage for therapy services.

Q: Why do insurance companies require a mental health diagnosis for therapy?
A: Because health insurance is medical insurance, services must meet medical necessity criteria to be covered. A diagnosis helps the insurer determine eligibility and reimbursement under those guidelines.

Q: If I want to use insurance but do not have a mental health diagnosis, can I still use my insurance?
A: A diagnosis must be established for insurance to cover therapy. If a diagnosis is not appropriate or desired, private pay remains an available option.

Q: Why would someone choose private pay if they have insurance?
A: Many clients choose private pay for increased discretion, greater flexibility in session frequency, and the ability to focus on treatment goals without insurance guidelines shaping the process.

Q: Is therapy better if I pay privately?
A: The quality of therapy does not depend on how you pay. However, private pay can allow for more flexibility in pacing and long-term planning, especially for specialized services such as trauma therapy or couples counseling.

Q: Will insurance limit how often I can attend therapy?
A: In some cases, insurance may review treatment for medical necessity and determine coverage based on its policies. Private pay allows you and your therapist to determine the frequency of care together.

Q: Can I use my HSA or FSA for therapy sessions?
A: Yes. We accept Health Savings Accounts (HSA) and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA), which allow you to use pre-tax funds for therapy.

Q: Do I need a mental health diagnosis to use my HSA or FSA for therapy?
A: No. A diagnosis is not required to use HSA or FSA funds for qualified mental health services.

Q: What is a superbill and how does out-of-network reimbursement work?
A: A superbill is a detailed receipt you submit to your insurance company if you have out-of-network benefits. Depending on your plan, you may receive partial reimbursement. We provide superbills at no cost and can guide you through the process.
